The first artificial holds mounted on a climbing wall in Oradea

In the beginning there was the rock. And then the climbing walls appeared...

In the early 2000s, in the premises of the CASSIO Montana club behind the Sports Hall, the first artificial climbing wall in the city of Oradea was set up. The panel had a ceiling, two large overhanging faces and a smaller one.

This board was arranged by members of the CASSIO Montana club. It operated over a period of several years. The guys from that time who put their shoulder and soul into that arrangement are Imi, Tadi and Pisti. Their initiative, quite pioneering for the time, deserves all the appreciation.

At the present time, neither the sign nor the building exists in that area. This was actually a redeveloped thermal point. The panel actually worked inside the thermal spot. The advantage was that you had free heat from the pipes inside.

After that, there was also an outdoor climbing wall project, made on four concrete pillars with a height of 10 meters. This project unfortunately stopped after the placement of the concrete pillars. It was money that played the main role. More precisely, their lack.

It would have been a huge artificial cave on which hundreds of routes could be laid out. We no longer mention the contests that could be held there.

At the moment there are two indoor climbing walls, set up in Oradea.

One of them is coordinated by one of the artisans of the first panel I told you about. It's about Imi. Details can be found on the page of the climbing hall Crux Holds.

The second hall operates on the Street of the City Hall. Additional details are available on the official page of the Gecko climbing gym.
