What we leave behind? Short history

CASSIO Montana – alpine club estableshed in 1984.
Among the founding members is the late Nea' Baticu.

The club was founded back in 1984 by a group of friends and mountain lovers.

Among the traditional sports practiced by the club's athletes are classic and expedition mountaineering, climbing, kayaking, paragliding, mtb, eco challenge, snow boarding, skiing, ski touring.

We have active indoor & outdoor activities organized pro bono for categories of disadvantaged people.

Alpine premieres (including grade 6A-classic)

In 1974 the first team (most likely) to climb the Blue Fissure in winter, in a single day, with departure and arrival at the Costila Refuge (the team was under the name of Iași University).

In 1989 the Zburătorul route received the beauty award (20m zip line between the 2nd and 4th lengths on a fixed steel cable equipped with a recoverable roller). Unfortunately, the route was vandalized (cable, tensioner, and roller), but with the help of Salvamont Bihor, the zip line was reinstalled and is available for travel with a device with a roller on the carrier (if you bring it from home).

Also in 1989, medalists in the Alpine premiership ranking, and in the '90s medals in the climbing, difficulty, and speed rankings.

Other performances and curiosities about club activity

The first portable drilling machine in the country in the first routes laid out (or relaid) on spits.

Since the 80's we have been making climbing and caving equipment, some still in use today.

Climbing and caving schools and internships, some coordinated by the late Nea' Baticu, sporadic publications with the respective theme.

In the '90s, at the club's headquarters, we had climbing training boards, all built by our own efforts.

Other sections with national and even international results: chess, ship modeling, astronomy, paragliding (local flights to Varciorog and Betfia), adventure-race, and mountain biking.
